The Montreal Band International Collaboratory

In October, 2002, we founded The Montreal Band International Collaboratory, focusing on e-learning and technology-enhanced learning (TEL). Our collaboratory functions as a virtual research group, working together in a Groove workspace.

So far, we have worked together on action research projects, developing A Model for Systemic Change Management in Education, which we presented at the International Conference on Education and Information Systems: Technologies and Applications (EISTA), where our paper was selected as Best Paper on Applications of Information & Communication Technologies in Education in August, 2003.

In June, 2004, we held an International Symposium on Online Learning in Lubeck, Germany, attended by more than 50 participants from Germany, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and the United States.

We are currently writing a practical handbook on e-Action Learning.

Applying Multi-Intelligent Adaptive Hypermedia to Online Learning

The research study entitled Applying Multi-Intelligent Adaptive Hypermedia to Online Learning was undertaken in 2001-2002 to answer the research question:

Can the cognitive Theory of Multiple Intelligences be used to support adaptation in an online learning environment?

To answer the research question, the study was conducted in three parts:

  • Development of understanding goals and user characterization based on a participant's three most developed intelligences and technical background.
  • Development of prototype Multi-Intelligent Online Learning framework and learning modules.
  • Formative evaluation of Multi-Intelligent Online Learning modules.

A research paper was presented on October 16, 2002 at E-Learn 2002 sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE).

Paper published in the E-Learn 2002 conference proceedings:
